Sitting in front of two paintings that I felt the most freedom ever when creating them. I have always been fascinated with butterflies since I was born. I just love the way they move. My mother told me as a child, sometimes butterflies are lost loved ones that visit us from time to time. They appear at moments that are sometimes special beyond explanation, they almost stop you in time when they appear. It’s like poetry in motion with an ethereal grace. Many butterflies possess intense colours, each very unique, especially the Morpho butterfly. This collection is mainly about this type of butterfly due to its highly intense shades of blue hues. They have inspired me to paint my Mccreedyblue Butterfly series. What does it mean to be blue? The wings of a Morpho butterfly are some of the most brilliant structures in nature, and yet they contain no blue pigment, they harness the physics of light at the nanoscale. The morpho butterflies comprise many species of Neotropical butterfly under the genus Morpho. This genus includes over 29 accepted species and 147 accepted subspecies, found mostly in South America, Mexico, and Central America. Morphowingspans range from 7.5 cm (3.0 in) the imposing sunset morpho. The name morpho, meaning "changed" or "modified", is also an epithet. Ulysses is the Roman name for the Greek hero, Odysseus, a character in ancient Greek literature, the central character of Homer's Odyssey. Papilio ulysses, the Ulysses butterfly (also commonly known as the Blue emperor), is a large swallowtail butterfly of Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Its size varies depending on subspecies, but the wingspan is about 10.5 cm (4.1 in) in Queensland.
